Deogarh (Debagarh) is a picturesque district nestled in the hills of western Odisha. It was the capital of the erstwhile Bamanda (Bamra) princely state. The district is known for its dense forests, waterfalls, and a strong literary tradition fostered by its enlightened rulers.

The Heritage Diary

The Bamanda kingdom was considered one of the most progressive princely states. King Basudeb Sudhal Deb was a patron of literature and science. He established the Jagannath press and invited scholars to his court. The first hydroelectricity project in Odisha was commissioned here during the princely rule.
