Tip

Polite requests end in -ନ୍ତୁ

To tell someone to do something, use the bare verb with friends and children: ବସ, ଖାଅ, ଦିଅ. With elders, guests and strangers add -ନ୍ତୁ: ବସନ୍ତୁ, ଖାଆନ୍ତୁ, ଦିଅନ୍ତୁ. Uncle says ବସ, ଖାଅ to his nephew; the nephew would say ଖାଆନ୍ତୁ to him.
