What is protected

All ancient caves, structures and other monuments or remains situated on the Udaygiri and the Khandagiri hills (also: Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves) except the temple of Parasnath on the top of the Khandagiri hill and also the temple in front of the Barabhuji and the Trisula Caves

This is the description in the ASI's list of protected monuments. Monuments of National Importance are protected under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958: building and mining are restricted within 100 metres, and within 300 metres only with permission.
