The Daredevil Pilot
Before entering politics, Biju Patnaik was an ace pilot.
- ✦Saving Indonesian Leaders: In 1947, on Prime Minister Nehru's request, he flew a Dakota aircraft into Dutch-besieged Indonesia to rescue Vice President Mohammad Hatta and Premier Sutan Sjahrir. For this heroic act, he was given honorary citizenship of Indonesia and the title "Bhumiputra" (Son of the Soil).
