Madhusudan Das (ମଧୁସୂଦନ ଦାସ, 1848–1934) is the towering figure of modern Odia history. Known as "Madhu Barrister" (ମଧୁ ବ୍ୟାରିଷ୍ଟର), he was Odisha's first graduate, first lawyer, and first legislative council member — and the man who planted the seed for a separate Odisha province.

Madhusudan Das was born into a Christian convert family in Satyabhamapur near Cuttack:

The Movement for a Separate Odisha

This was Madhusudan Das's greatest mission. In the early 1900s, Odia-speaking areas were divided among three British provinces:
